Stream Light, a companion volume to Seasons (2022), begins and ends with a domestic scene in Dunedin, New Zealand after the poet's shift from the small rural town of Middlemarch to the capital city of Otago province.

The poems make a read through Dunedin ('Skirting'), Otago and Canterbury (places like Oamaru, Tekapo, Cave and Pukaki), but most of all to the city both Direen and artist Scott Flanagan once called home - Christchurch, New Zealand.

As you will discover, both William (Bill) Direen and Scott Flanagan have more than estrangement from their home cities to deal with. Their works deal with grief and the steady accumulation of bereavement the longer one lives, the passage of time, treatment for cancer (Flanagan), not forgetting health and, as with Seasons, the wonder of nature.
